Tweet Tweet
August 3rd, 2009
I finally caved. I have a twitter account.
I realized how bad it was that Mike was on Twitter before me, so I at least had to beat him to the tweet.
You can follow me here (although I’m not sure why you would want to at this point): http://twitter.com/joshyoungmusic
Come on, Mike…tweet something!
Josh,
Saw you start following me this morning.
Twitter is hard to ‘get into’. Its kind of like Facebook without the ability to occasionally do a bigger than 140 character rant.
I’m on my third or fourth try with Twitter, and I still don’t tweet much. I mainly hit two goals with Twitter:
1. @BreakingNews – I’m a bit of a news junkie and they are always first with news.
2. The local .NET user group, kind of get to know people without having to spend ample time with them.
3. A few actual friends that are on there.
Depending on how close you follow your twitter stream it kind of replaces certain RSS feeds you subscribe to.
It certainly isn’t for everybody (still not sure its for me), but from a church perspective I’ve seen it used best two ways:
1. Alternate to an RSS feed, so having those items automatically Tweet are good.
2. I’ve seen conversations go on during church between members.
I remember recently hearing that a church actually shows its twitter stream during service!
Mars Hill Church in Seattle has encouraged tweeting during its services. They have done several interesting things using that as well, including doing live Q&As with people tweeting their questions during the service, and their pastor gets them live on stage (after moderation) and answers them. It’s been interesting to see how Twitter (and even Facebook) have started to evolve our culture.
NEVER! I’ll never tweet! (Actually, I’ve learned to never say never. Every time that I say I’ll “never” do something, I always wind up eating my words.)
Or more appropriately, eat your tweet.
@ck
You know, I just realized I said I had two goals… then listed 3. Nice.
