Picasa Web Albums

Google has done it again. They have now quadrupled their storage capacity for Picasa Web Albums. (see the Official Google Blog)

Picasa Web Albums LogoI have been trying Picasa Web Albums out for a while now, and I like it, but I wasn’t sold on it because I didn’t know if I wanted to put all of my eggs in one basket with only 250 MB (while that’s still quite a bit, it’s not gargantuan or anything). Now that they’re up to 1 GB (that’s over 4,000 standard resolution pictures), I’m a little more intrigued. I think I’ll start putting a lot more up there.

If you’ve used Picasa before, which I HIGHLY recommend, then it’s dirt simple to get your pics online. And Picasa is the best program I’ve come across to keep your digital pictures organized in the easiest way possible.

Props to Google for doing it again.

Picasa Web Albums feels more like photobucket then Flickr. Flickr just seems more photoblog-like I guess and the community features are great and superior to PWA’s. I’ve used PWA for certain things, but for real photo sharing flickr still gets my vote.

I agree that Flickr is more social, but I think that’s one thing that Google is currently trying to address with Picasa. However, that being said, I used Flickr for a while, and quite honestly, I didn’t use it for any of the social features. I just wanted a quick and easy way to put some of my pictures online to share them with a few of my friends and family.

Plus, one thing that sort of bothers me about Flickr is the speed. It always seems slow to me. I don’t know what it is, but I usually get impatient when I’m using it and just quit. Everything seems to load slowly.

I do still use Flickr for the Church Marketing Lab though, which goes back to the whole “social” aspect of it. I do like that, but for just putting up some of my personal photos, I seem to lean more towards Picasa Web.
